Hooks everywhere: the age of dynamic contracts
Smart contracts were meant to be immutable, but real applications need to react and adapt, so developers have engineered ways to inject custom logic at well-defined points: hooks. What started as a niche pattern is now everywhere. Uniswap v4 turns AMM pools into programmable surfaces; modular smart accounts (ERC-7579, ERC-6900) attach validation and execution hooks; tokens expose transfer callbacks. These designs share a common idea but differ sharply in their trust, gas, and composability tradeoffs. This talk maps the landscape: the main hook architectures in use today, what each one enables, the security pitfalls they introduce (reentrancy, malicious hooks, unbounded gas), and how to choose between them. You'll leave with a clear mental model of dynamic contract design and where it's heading.
