Connectivity Credits: Tokenizing Telecoms for A Better Huma/I/nternet
Giga (a collaboration with UNICEF and the ITU) is working, with support from EF, to tokenize core network resources (radio spectrum, subsea cables, and in-country internet) to allow for a better, safer, and more decentralized access to 'connectivity.'
This talk is an update from Devcon 7 (and EthPrague/EthCC) and I will share progress in Malawi, Mexico, South Africa, and Kenya, Sierra Leone and The Gambia where we are now in production to create property rights in the network space.
This is important because right now "the internet" is too expensive and too centrally controlled to be accessed by 2bn people. It's also super unsafe. If its core assets are available on chain they can be managed by agents, they can be made visible to all, and they can be distributed more fairly. This is one of the larger DePIN projects in the world, and will scale to more than 54 countries
