Quantumglow: How Solana Is Preparing for Quantum Computers

Video

Quantumglow is a proposed post-quantum adaptation of Alpenglow, designed to protect Solana’s consensus from quantum computing threats while preserving fast finality in normal operation.

It uses hash-based signatures and replaces BLS signature aggregation with lightweight approval messages, changing how validators establish agreement without broadcasting aggregated certificates.

In this video, Jacob Creech and Quentin Kniep explain why quantum computers threaten existing signatures, how Quantumglow’s voting and approval thresholds work, and why an extra communication step is only needed on the slower fallback path. They also cover changes to Rotor that reduce the overhead of larger signatures.
