Franklin Templeton: Money Market Funds, Tokenized
Money market funds have been a haven for cash since 1971, holding short-term assets like US Treasury bills to offer stable returns with easy access. US money market fund assets now exceed $6.4 trillion.
They are also relics of the system that built them, carrying inefficiencies that tokenization removes. Franklin Templeton, which manages $1.6 trillion, brought its money market fund onto Solana as BENJI.
What followed shows what tokenizing a fund actually unlocks. BENJI now runs across eight networks, Binance and Bybit both accept it as trading collateral, and in August 2026 the SEC issued a no-action letter letting Franklin Templeton's own registered funds hold BENJI shares, opening $872 billion of ETFs and mutual funds to it as collateral.
Originally produced in February 2025. Some details may have changed since.
